Basal Insulin Therapy in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus - Part One: Insulin Glargine
This series on insulin therapy was devised by Dr. Rosenstock and Professor Owens to present clinical evidence on new
insulin analogs in an original and refreshing way. The goal is to provide an accessible yet complete and structured
summary of all available studies describing findings on a particular insulin analog and to integrate this with current
concepts of contemporary clinical practice mixed with expert commentaries.
This first in the series presents an overview of insulin glargine, the first long-acting insulin analog, and describes
findings in type 2 diabetes. The extensive pre-clinical and clinical study program with insulin glargine has provided
new evidence on the role of basal insulin treatment in type 2 diabetes, complimenting a major change in treatment approach
that is driven by targets.
This book will be valuable to diabetologists and all health care professionals involved in the care of persons with type
2 diabetes, and will be particularly useful for primary care teams seeking to implement early basal insulin treatment protocols.
